Feed Storage Leachate Work Team
Custodian: NRCS
Conservation Practice Standard
Feed Storage Leachate and Runoff Control
Status
The work team completed its assignment to develop a new NRCS standard to deal with leachate, seepage and runoff stemming from livestock feed storage areas. In the Fall of 2007, the team submitted a final draft of the standard to the custodian, NRCS, which is working to incorporate the draft standard into the existing 629 Waste Treatment standard. It's expected that a revised Waste Treatment standard also will incorporate elements of the draft Milking Center Wastewater Treatment standard, which a separate SOC work team completed in 2006.
In addition, the Feed Storage Leachate team drafted an outline for a companion document on leachate and runoff control practices. SOC intends to begin work on this companion document in 2008.

Proprietary Stormwater Devices Work Team
Custodian: WDNR and the Dept. of Commerce
Technical Standard 1006 (tentatively named)
Methods and Procedures for Predicting the Efficiency of Proprietary Stormwater Sedimentation Devices
Status
The work team is charged with creating a joint WDNR-Dept. of Commerce technical standard for sizing proprietary urban stormwater sediment control devices. This is the first SOC work team to be involved writing a standard having joint custodianship.
The group is considering the feasibility of a two step approach which first involves establishing a modeling methodology followed by the development of full scale lab testing. Manufacturers are being solicited for input on methodologies for sizing these types of devices.
This draft is available for broad review
Ad Hoc Committees
Two ad hoc committees were established to assist with the creation of this standard. The first group is comprised of stormwater scientists/academicians; the other group consists of representatives from major device manufacturers. Members of these groups are not appointed to the Work Team, they serve in an advisory role to Team. The intent of the ad hoc committees is to formally establish communications and opportunities to share data useful for the development of the technical criteria. The individuals listed below are involved on the committees.

Michael Barrett, Univ. of Texas
Ted Brown, Center for Watershed Protection
Gary Minton, Consultant

Milking Center Waste Work Team
Custodian: NRCS
Conservation Practice Standard 719,
Interim Milking Center Wastewater Treatment System
Status
A design spreadsheet developed by this work team for estimating milking center wastewater volumes was approved for use by the NRCS. The "Milking Center Waste Volume" Excel file can be downloaded from the NRCS at: http://www.wi.nrcs.usda.gov/technical/eng_spreads.html
The work team has finished drafting Standard 719, and continues to write the remaining companion documents. Because the new standard presents techniques not commonly used in the state the NRCS is waiting to release the standard and companion document simultaneously.
